The Open Night, in its fifth edition, will be characterized as a marathon of events that will begin August 13 at 21.30 am and continue until with concerts, exhibitions, shopping, night clubs, sports and a wide range of initiatives able to animate every corner of the village. The event is entrusted to the Prologue, the youth group of Proloco. On 14 August, however, will be the turn of the parade that recalls the period of the Knights of Calatrava. Departure at 18.30 from St. Michael Largo , with the presence of the flag-waving from Lucera and archers in the village. The historical pageant, with its customs and its symbols, covers nearly two centuries of history characterized by thick and diplomatic relations between religious Orsara of Puglia and the English city of Leon. The event will include four shows of skill and recalling as many representations that refer to narratives and documents published in the book "Footsteps of Calatrava, a book published by Proloco Orsara of Puglia and produced by Anna Mur y Raurel, scholar 's Austrian Institute of Madrid. 4 queens who will be able to see off: Berenguela Empress, Queen Urraca, Queen of Portugal Teresa and the Queen Mother Maria de Molina. These are the rulers - linked to the crown of Leon - who have been concerned with the fate of the Abbey of Orsara Sancti Angeli di Puglia (the Abbey today said, "Annunciation").
The sword and the Bible, prayer and the inner light of the glowing metal of the weapons: August 14, at Orsara di Puglia, will return the warrior monks, with historical re-enactment and the procession that will revive the knights of the ancient monastic order of Calatrava.

ORIGINS

In Spain, in 1155, Muslims and Christians were fighting a fortress. The first called Kalaat Rawah, for the latter, however, that was the fortress of Calatrava. The refusal of the Templars to defend the disputed site, the abbot Cistercian lay brother Ramon Serrat and Diego Velasquez agreed to guard the fortress founded the Order of the Knights of Calatrava. The order of warrior monks was approved by Pope Alexander III on September 25, 1164 and the story of brave Calatrava was destined to cross with that of Orsara di Puglia.

clash with FEDERICO II

Officially the establishment of a knightly order in Orsara was motivated by a desire to Teresa, Queen of Leon, to gratify the Calatrava who had supported and sustained. But others speculate that it was an attempt by the Pope to oppose Frederick II who, at that time, he was deploying contingents of Muslims in nearby Lucerne.

KNIGHT THE LATIN LOVER

With time Calatrava change their costume and the Order lost its initial characteristics: belonging to it became a mere honorary title. Characters of some importance that have been involved were Pope Boniface VIII, King Ferdinand the Catholic, several cardinals and Don Miguel Manara Vicentelo De Leca Colona of Seville Dumas identified with the legendary Latin lover Don Juan.
